Apr 19, 2021 at 12:24 comment added Joseph O'Rourke @DanielR.Collins: Yes, this very much depends on the school environment and the motivation of the students.
Apr 19, 2021 at 4:10 comment added Daniel R. Collins In some cases this is absolutely not possible. E,g. at my community college in lower-level classes I routinely have students sleeping during the course session (and also on tests). One time I woke up a person in that state, they physically threatened me, security was involved; and I was advised not to ever do that again, but just let people sleep in place.

Apr 18, 2021 at 11:34 comment added Kartik Soneji Hmm, that number still seems a bit high, was this an advanced class? And were all the students engaged? In my experience, there always seem to be at least 2-3 disengaged students in a class of that size, more if the topic is complex.
Apr 18, 2021 at 11:23 comment added Joseph O'Rourke @KartikSoneji: 37 students the day I attended.
Apr 18, 2021 at 8:44 comment added Kartik Soneji I would genuinely LOVE to see this in practice, but unfortunately this is usually not feasible in classes with ~70 students and one instructor, especially when the classes are not in-person. @Joseph what was the student/teacher ratio for this class?
Apr 18, 2021 at 1:37 comment added Sue VanHattum Can you go into more detail about how this was achieved?
