Feb 7, 2020 at 18:34 comment added user507 @HenryTowsner: The point about $\sin(\theta)$ is that the parens are not necessary because there is no ambiguity in the order of operations. Students write these unnecessary parens these days because of the influence of computer languages and calculators.
